  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This classic French Toast recipe features slices of brioche or white sandwich bread soaked in a cinnamon-infused egg and milk mixture, then cooked to golden perfection in butter. Served with macerated strawberries and maple syrup, it’s a delightful, comforting breakfast or brunch option that’s easy to prepare and delicious for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

For the French Toast

  • 6 slices brioche or white sandwich bread, slightly stale
  • 3040g (2 – 3 tbsp) butter
  • 2 large eggs (~60g / 2 oz each)
  • ½ cup (125 ml) milk
  • ½ tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Macerated Strawberries (optional)

  • 250g (8 oz) strawberries, halved
  • 1 tbsp white sugar

To Serve

  • Maple syrup
  • Butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon powder, and vanilla extract vigorously. This helps blend the cinnamon throughout the mixture and prevents it from floating on top.
  2. Melt butter in skillet: Heat 15g (1 tbsp) of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until melted and slightly bubbling.
  3. Dip and cook bread slices: Quickly dunk one slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Place the soaked bread into the skillet. Repeat with 1-2 more slices to fill the pan, making sure not to overcrowd it.
  4. Cook the French toast: Cook each slice for 2½ to 3 minutes per side, or until both sides are golden brown and cooked through. Transfer cooked slices to serving plates.
  5. Cook remaining bread: Add more butter to the skillet as needed, and cook the remaining bread slices using the same method.
  6. Macerate the strawberries (optional): Toss the halved strawberries with the white sugar in a bowl. Allow them to sit for at least 20 minutes. The strawberries will soften and release their juices, creating a sweet syrup that complements the French toast.
  7. Serve: Serve the French toast warm, topped with butter, plenty of maple syrup, and the macerated strawberries if using.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for better absorption of the egg mixture without falling apart.
  • Do not soak the bread too long to prevent sogginess—just a quick dunk is sufficient.
  • You can substitute brioche with challah or thick white bread if preferred.
  • Macerated strawberries add a fresh, sweet contrast but can be omitted or replaced with other fresh fruits.
  • Adjust cinnamon and vanilla quantities to your taste preference.
  • Cook on medium heat to ensure the toast cooks through without burning.
