Ingredients
Scale
Green Beans
- 500 g / 1 lb green beans, ends trimmed
Seasoning and Topping
- 2 tbsp olive oil, separated
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven or broiler: Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) or set your broiler/grill on high, positioning the rack about 30 cm (12 inches) from the heat source to ensure optimal roasting or broiling conditions.
- Prepare the green beans: Place the trimmed green beans on a baking tray. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, add the finely chopped garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together to coat the beans evenly with the seasonings and oil.
- Arrange the beans: Spread the seasoned green beans out in two rows on the tray, lining them up close to each other for even cooking and topping coverage.
- Add the breadcrumb and parmesan topping: Sprinkle the panko breadcrumbs evenly over the arranged green beans, followed by the grated parmesan cheese. Drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to help the topping crisp up.
- Roast or broil the beans: Place the tray in the oven and roast for 15 minutes, or if using the broiler/grill, cook for about 8 minutes. The topping should turn golden brown, signaling that the beans are ready.
- Serve: Use a spatula or an egg flip to transfer the roasted green beans to a serving platter. Serve immediately while the topping is crisp and the beans are hot.
Notes
- You can use fresh or frozen green beans; if frozen, thaw and pat dry before using to ensure crispiness.
- For a nuttier flavor, try using freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
- Adjust salt according to your taste or dietary needs.
- If you prefer a gluten-free option, substitute panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed nuts.
- Serve as a side dish to grilled meats, roasted chicken, or pasta dishes for a complete meal.
