Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich Ingredients
- 8 slices ciabatta, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- 8 ounces brie, thinly sliced
- 1 cup prepared cranberry sauce
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
- 8 thin slices turkey
Cranberry Sauce
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- Zest of 1 orange
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of ciabatta bread. This will help achieve a golden, crispy crust when grilled.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Place 4 slices of the bread buttered side down. Layer each with 2 slices of turkey, 2 ounces of brie, 4-5 thin slices of Granny Smith apple, and several spoonfuls of the prepared cranberry sauce.
- Complete the sandwiches: Top the layered bread with the remaining 4 slices, buttered side up, to enclose the fillings.
- Grill on stove: Heat a grill pan over medium heat and lightly spray with cooking spray. Place the sandwiches on the grill pan and top each with a heavy skillet or weight. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Alternative grilling method: Preheat a panini press. Place the sandwiches inside and press down, cooking for 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden and crispy and the fillings are warm.
- Make cranberry sauce (if needed): In a saucepan, combine fresh cranberries, white sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, and orange zest. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens, about 10-15 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks before serving.
Notes
- For a quicker version, store-bought cranberry sauce can be used instead of making fresh.
- If you prefer a sweeter sandwich, add a drizzle of honey inside before grilling.
- Substitute turkey with chicken or ham for variation.
- The sandwich is best enjoyed warm with melted brie.
- Use fresh, firm Granny Smith apples to add crisp texture and slight tartness.
