  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: Approximately 6 servings 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

Tony’s Ridiculously Easy Homemade Salsa is a fresh and flavorful salsa made from ripe tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeños, and cilantro. Blended to your preferred texture and seasoned with lime juice, cumin, sugar, and salt, this versatile salsa is perfect for serving with chips, on nachos, chili, or any dish that could use a zesty kick.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 1 1/2 pounds tomatoes (vine-ripe, roma or heirloom), cored and quartered
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 green onion, ends trimmed
  • 23 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 jalapeños, diced (include seeds for heat)
  • 1 heaping handful of cilantro (about 1/2 cup)

Seasonings

  • Half a lime, juiced
  • Pinch of cumin
  • Pinch of sugar
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Core and quarter the tomatoes, roughly chop the yellow onion, trim the ends of the green onion, finely chop the garlic, and dice the jalapeños (include seeds if you want more heat). Gather the cilantro and juice half a lime.
  2. Blend Salsa: Add all the prepared ingredients—including the tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeños, cilantro, lime juice, cumin, sugar, and salt—into a blender or food processor. Pulse until you achieve your desired salsa consistency, whether chunky or smooth. Tony recommends a slightly chunky texture for the best mouthfeel.
  3. Season & Adjust: Taste the salsa and add additional salt if needed to balance flavors.
  4. Chill: Transfer the salsa to a container and chill it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours or overnight. This resting time helps the flavors meld together nicely.
  5. Serve: Enjoy your homemade salsa chilled with tortilla chips, over nachos, chili, or any favorite dish that benefits from fresh, zesty flavor.

Notes

  • Store the salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Adjust jalapeño seeds to control the heat level to your preference.
  • For a smoother salsa, blend longer; for chunkier salsa, pulse gently.
  • Letting the salsa rest overnight enhances the depth of flavor.
