  • 1 packet Sazon seasoning (about 1 ½ teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion

Onion Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 Beefy Onion soup packet (see notes)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Assemble the hamburger mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, scallions, Cajun seasoning, Sazon seasoning, garlic paste, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, and dried minced onion. Mix until just combined.
  2. Marinate beef: Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour.
  3. Shape the patties: Form individual patties and flatten them.
  4. Brown the steaks: Cook the patties in a skillet until browned on both sides.
  5. Build the onion gravy: Cook onions, then add soup packet, flour, and beef broth to make gravy.
  6. Finish steaks & onion gravy: Simmer steaks in the gravy to meld flavors.
  7. Serve: Serve the hamburger steaks and onion gravy over mashed potatoes with green peas or corn.
