Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Base
- 1 ball (approximately 9 oz) pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
Sauce
- 2/3 cup crème fraîche
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh dill, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Toppings
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced dill pickles
- 1 tablespoon red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, for garnish
Instructions
- Oven Preparation: Preheat your oven to 480°F (250°C) or the highest temperature it allows. If you have a pizza stone, place it inside the oven to heat as well.
- Shape the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer it onto a parchment-lined baking sheet or a pizza peel if you plan to slide it onto a stone.
- Prepare Sauce: In a bowl, mix together the crème fraîche, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, lemon zest, salt, and freshly ground black pepper until combined thoroughly.
- Assemble Base: Spread the prepared crème fraîche sauce evenly over the stretched dough, leaving about a half-inch border around the edges to form the crust.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese uniformly over the sauce layer to ensure even melting.
- Arrange Toppings: Scatter the sliced dill pickles and optional thin slices of red onion evenly on top of the cheese.
- Bake Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven, garnish with fresh dill, slice it, and serve immediately to enjoy the fresh and tangy flavors.
Notes
- To achieve the best crust texture, use a pizza stone if available and preheat it thoroughly.
- The red onion is optional but adds a nice sharp contrast to the creamy, tangy toppings.
- Adjust the amount of dill pickles to your taste preference for more or less tanginess.
- For an even crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 2-3 minutes before adding toppings.
- Substitute crème fraîche with sour cream if crème fraîche is not available, though flavor may slightly differ.
