Nacho Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 sandwiches (cut in halves for 4 servings) 1x

Description

This Nacho Grilled Cheese recipe combines the classic comfort of melted Mexican cheese and toasted Italian bread with the spicy crunch of jalapeno rings and zesty Doritos for an elevated twist on a beloved sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Spread

  • 4 thick slices of Italian bread
  • 4 tsp mayonnaise

Cheese and Toppings

  • 1 cup fancy shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • Jalapeno rings to taste
  • 8 zesty Doritos

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet: Preheat a non-stick or large cast iron skillet over medium-low heat to ensure even toasting without burning the bread.
  2. Prepare the bread: Spread 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. Place the bread slices mayo-side-down in the skillet.
  3. Add cheese and jalapenos: Spoon about 1/4 cup of the shredded Mexican cheese blend evenly onto each slice in the skillet and spread to cover the surface. Add jalapeno rings on top to your preference.
  4. Melt cheese and toast bread: Cook the bread and cheese until the cheese has melted and the bottom of the bread is browned. Adjust heat as necessary to avoid burning.
  5. Assemble sandwiches with chips: Remove two slices from the skillet onto a cutting board. Layer each with 4 zesty Doritos in a single overlapping layer.
  6. Complete the sandwich: Top each with another slice of bread, cheese side down. Press down slightly to break up the chips inside. Cut each sandwich in half and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of jalapeno rings depending on your spice preference.
  • Use any type of Mexican shredded cheese blend available, such as cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a fiesta blend.
  • To avoid soggy bread, ensure the skillet is well preheated and cook over medium-low heat.
  • Zesty Doritos add a unique crunch; substitute with another flavored tortilla chip if preferred.
  • This sandwich is best enjoyed immediately while the cheese is melty and the chips are crunchy.
