  • Diet: Halal

Description

These Moroccan-style lamb burgers are a delightful fusion of warm spices, tender lamb, and sweet apricots, creating a unique and flavorful twist on the classic burger. Served in wholemeal rolls with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and creamy mayonnaise, they offer a balanced and satisfying meal perfect for grilling enthusiasts seeking something a bit exotic.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Lamb Burgers

  • 1 onion, roughly chopped
  • cm piece ginger, roughly chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
  • Handful of fresh coriander
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 75g ready-to-eat dried apricots, roughly chopped
  • 500g lean lamb mince
  • Salt and pepper, to season

To Serve

  • Wholemeal rolls
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onion
  • Mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Aromatics: Blend the onion, ginger, garlic, and fresh coriander in a food processor until finely chopped, creating a vibrant, aromatic base for the burger mixture.
  2. Mix the Burger Ingredients: Add the ground coriander, cumin, cinnamon, chopped apricots, lean lamb mince, salt, and pepper to the aromatic blend. Pulse the food processor gently to mix until the mixture is slightly chunky, ensuring the spices and apricots are well distributed.
  3. Shape the Burgers: Divide the lamb mixture evenly and shape into six patties, taking care to keep them compact and uniform for even cooking.
  4. Cook the Burgers: Place the patties under a medium-hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the lamb is cooked through and the patties have a nice char.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Toast the wholemeal rolls lightly if desired. Serve the cooked lamb burgers in the rolls with fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and a generous spread of mayonnaise for a delicious, balanced meal.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a little chili powder or cayenne to the mix for a spicy kick.
  • Ensure the lamb mixture is not over-processed to maintain a pleasantly chunky texture.
  • These burgers can also be cooked on a stovetop grill pan if a grill is not available.
  • Using lean lamb mince helps keep the fat content moderate and prevents excessive flare-ups during grilling.
  • Serve with a side of couscous or a fresh salad for a full Moroccan-inspired meal.
