Cheese Mixture:
- 2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
- 4 ounces softened cream cheese
- 2 jalapeños, diced (seeds removed)
- ½ cup diced green onion
Breading:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1½ – 2 cups breadcrumbs
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
- Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, mix together pepper jack cheese, cream cheese, jalapeños, and green onions until well combined.
- Form Balls: Roll the mixture into small balls and place on a foil-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate until ready to dredge.
- Prepare Breading Station: Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with whisked egg and buttermilk, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with seasonings.
- Dredging: Dredge each ball first in flour, then dip it in the egg mixture, followed by rolling it in breadcrumbs. Repeat for double coating.
- Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry about 4 to 6 balls at a time until golden brown on all sides.
- Serve: Drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
- Be careful when working with jalapeños, as they can cause skin irritation. Wear gloves if needed.
- Adjust the amount of jalapeños based on your spice preference.
- For a spicier version, leave some seeds in the jalapeños.
