Ingredients
Scale
Halloumi Skewers
- 2 x 250g blocks halloumi
- 1 tbsp neutral oil (for brushing grill bars)
- 1 tbsp neutral oil (for mixing in glaze)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tsp garlic granules
- 1 tbsp chilli flakes
- 100ml honey
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the honey glaze: In a bowl, combine 1 tbsp neutral oil, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tsp sesame seeds, 2 tsp garlic granules, 1 tbsp chilli flakes, 100ml honey, and 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Cut the halloumi: Take each 250g block of halloumi and slice it into thirds parallel to the fold, then break each piece in half at the fold, resulting in a total of 12 pieces.
- Skewer the halloumi: Carefully thread the 12 halloumi pieces onto metal skewers, ensuring they are evenly spaced for even cooking.
- Prepare the grill: Brush the neutral oil over the bars of the barbecue grill to prevent sticking.
- Grill the skewers: Brush the halloumi skewers generously with the honey glaze and place them on the hot grill. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, turning carefully and brushing with additional glaze frequently until the halloumi is golden all over and slightly caramelized.
- Alternative cooking method: If you prefer, cook the skewers on the hob using a griddle pan set over high heat, following the same glazing and turning method to achieve a similar grilled effect.
- Serve: Transfer the cooked skewers to a serving plate and serve immediately with the remaining honey glaze in a small bowl on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Use metal skewers for better heat conduction, or soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes if using.
- Adjust the amount of chilli flakes based on your preferred spice level.
- Halloumi grills best on a hot surface to get a crispy exterior while remaining soft inside.
- Serve these skewers as an appetizer or as part of a mezze spread.
- For a vegan option, substitute halloumi with firm tofu and adjust cooking time accordingly.
