  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 23 minutes
  • Yield: 8 sausages (depending on patty size) 1x

Description

This homemade beef breakfast sausages recipe offers a flavorful and easy way to prepare classic breakfast patties infused with aromatic herbs and spices. Made with simple ingredients and cooked on the stovetop, these sausages are perfect for a hearty morning meal or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp. dried sage
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • ⅛ tsp. garlic powder
  • ⅛ tsp. dried thyme
  • Pinch cayenne
  • Pinch cloves

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water

Main Ingredient

  • 1 lb. ground beef

Instructions

  1. Mix Spices and Water: In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, dried sage, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, dried thyme, cayenne, and cloves. Stir in the water until everything is evenly mixed.
  2. Add Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the bowl and mix with your hands gently just until combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the sausage tender.
  3. Shape Patties: Spread the beef mixture onto a baking sheet or large plate in a layer about 1/2 inch thick. Use a round cookie cutter, glass, or jar approximately 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter to cut the mixture into individual sausage patties. Transfer the patties to a plate. Gather the leftover meat, spread it out again, and cut more patties until all the meat is used.
  4. Cook Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage patties and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side until well browned.
  5. Flip and Cook: Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes on the other side until browned and cooked through. Check the inside by cutting into a patty to ensure there is no pink remaining.
  6. Serve: Remove the patties from the skillet and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat to prevent tough sausages.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for safety.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level.
  • These sausages can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen for later use.
  • For a leaner option, choose lean ground beef with 90% lean content.
