Meat Filling:
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper (diced)
- 2 small yellow onions (diced)
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp sweet paprika
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
Potato Layer:
- 3 lbs potatoes (peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds)
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
Creamy Topping:
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Filling: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet, sauté onions and bell pepper. Add ground beef, cook until browned, season, and set aside.
- Prepare the Potato Layer: Preheat oven. Toss potato slices with oil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Assemble the Moussaka: Layer potatoes, meat filling, repeat, and finish with potatoes.
- Bake the Moussaka (Covered): Cover with foil, bake at 450°F for 40 minutes.
- Prepare the Creamy Topping: Whisk eggs, sour cream, and heavy cream until smooth.
- Final Bake (Uncovered): Pour topping over potatoes, bake uncovered for 20 minutes until golden.
- Rest and Serve: Let it rest for 15–20 minutes before serving.
