Chokladbollar (Swedish Chocolate Balls) Recipe

  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 10 minutes plus chilling time
  • Yield: Approximately 15 chokladbollar 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Chokladbollar are classic Swedish no-bake chocolate oat balls that combine butter, sugar, cocoa, and coffee for a rich yet simple treat. These bite-sized delights are rolled in pearl sugar or coconut flakes and chilled to perfection, making them an easy and quick dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Chokladbollar Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 and ⅓ cup rolled oats
  • 2 Tbsp strong coffee, cooled
  • ⅓ cup pearl sugar or coconut flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Butter Mixture: In a bowl, beat together the softened butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, ensuring the sugar begins to dissolve and the vanilla is evenly distributed.
  2. Add Cocoa Powder: Mix in the cocoa powder thoroughly to combine it evenly with the butter mixture, giving the base a rich chocolate flavor.
  3. Incorporate Oats and Coffee: Add the rolled oats and cooled strong coffee to the bowl. Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated, creating a manageable, slightly sticky mixture for shaping.
  4. Shape the Balls: Using about a tablespoon of the mixture each time, roll it between your hands to form small, evenly sized balls.
  5. Coat with Toppings and Chill: Roll each ball in pearl sugar or coconut flakes to coat the outside. Place formed chokladbollar on a tray or plate and refrigerate them until firm, at least 1 hour, before serving.

Notes

  • The strong coffee adds depth of flavor but can be substituted with instant coffee dissolved in a little hot water.
  • For a vegan version, use a plant-based butter alternative and ensure any sugar used is vegan-friendly.
  • Store chokladbollar in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • You can use desiccated coconut instead of coconut flakes if preferred.
  • These no-bake treats can also be rolled in chopped nuts for extra texture.
