Description

This Cheesy Broccoli Green Onion Quiche is a delightful savory pie combining the creamy richness of Swiss and cheddar cheeses with tender broccoli and vibrant green onions. Baked in a flaky pie crust and seasoned with black pepper, paprika, and chili powder, it makes a perfect brunch or light dinner option that’s both comforting and flavorful.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 pie crust, homemade or store bought

Vegetables

  • 1/2 lb frozen broccoli florets, defrosted
  • 1/2 cup green onion, thinly sliced

Cheese

  • 6 oz sliced Swiss cheese (about 6 pieces)
  • 6 oz sliced cheddar cheese (about 6 pieces)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375˚F (190˚C) to ensure it’s hot and ready when your quiche is assembled.
  2. Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust to about 12 inches in diameter. Gently place it into a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it evenly across the bottom and sides to fit properly.
  3. Layer the Cheese and Vegetables: Arrange 3 slices of Swiss cheese and 3 slices of cheddar cheese on the pie crust base. Spread the defrosted broccoli florets and thinly sliced green onions evenly over the cheese layer.
  4. Mix and Pour the Egg Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk the beaten eggs with the milk until smooth. Pour this mixture gently over the broccoli and cheese in the pie crust, allowing it to settle evenly.
  5. Add Remaining Cheese and Seasoning: Place the remaining slices of Swiss and cheddar cheese along with the shredded cheddar on top of the egg mixture. Sprinkle the black pepper, paprika, and chili powder evenly over the surface to add flavor and a mild kick.
  6. Bake the Quiche: Bake the assembled quiche in the preheated oven for about 1 hour or until the egg filling is fully set and the top is lightly golden. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 2 minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh broccoli if available; blanch it briefly before adding to ensure it cooks thoroughly.
  • For a richer texture, substitute whole milk with half-and-half or cream.
  • If you prefer a spicier quiche, increase the chili powder slightly or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Let the quiche cool slightly before slicing to help maintain clean slices.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently before serving.
