Cheese, Marmite & Spinach Pinwheels Recipe

  • Author: Noah
  • Total Time: 25-30 mins
  • Yield: 12 pinwheels 1x

Description

Deliciously savory cheese, Marmite, and spinach pinwheels made with light puff pastry, perfect as a snack or appetizer. These golden, flaky pinwheels feature a tangy Marmite spread, fresh spinach, and melted cheddar cheese, baked to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry

  • 320g sheet ready-rolled light puff pastry

Spread

  • 1 tbsp Marmite

Vegetables

  • 23 large handfuls of spinach

Cheese

  • 80g cheddar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan)/ gas mark 6 to prepare for baking the pinwheels.
  2. Prepare Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheet with the longer side directly in front of you on a clean surface, ready for layering.
  3. Spread Marmite: Evenly spread 1 tablespoon of Marmite over the entire surface of the pastry sheet to provide a savory base flavor.
  4. Add Spinach and Cheese: Tear 2-3 large handfuls of fresh spinach and scatter evenly over the Marmite-covered pastry, then distribute 80g of grated cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  5. Roll Pastry: Starting from the longer side closest to you, tightly roll the pastry away from you into a long sausage shape, ensuring fillings are enclosed.
  6. Slice Pinwheels: Cut the rolled pastry into 12 equal pieces to form individual pinwheels.
  7. Arrange on Baking Trays: Place the pinwheels spiral side up on two baking trays lined with baking parchment. Gently press each pinwheel down slightly with your hand to flatten.
  8. Freeze Option: Pinwheels can be kept covered and frozen at this stage for future baking.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes if thawed, or 25 minutes if baking from frozen, until puffed up and golden brown.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure spinach is well drained to avoid soggy pinwheels.
  • Pinwheels can be frozen before baking and cooked later, just add 5 extra minutes to baking time when frozen.
  • Use a sharp knife to make clean cuts for neat pinwheel shapes.
  • Serve warm for gooey cheese and tender pastry texture.
  • You can substitute cheddar with other cheese varieties such as mozzarella or gouda if desired.
