Ingredients
Scale
Noodles
- 10 oz wheat noodles (lo mein, spaghetti, or ramen)
Sauce & Flavorings
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter or plant-based butter
- 5 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce or mushroom oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp sugar
Garnishes
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 small red chili, thinly sliced (optional)
- Fresh cilantro leaves (optional)
- 1 cup bean sprouts (optional)
- 1 small carrot, julienned (optional)
Instructions
- Cook Noodles: Boil the wheat noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles thoroughly and set aside to prevent overcooking.
- Prepare Sauce Base: In a large skillet or wok, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, taking care not to let the garlic brown to avoid bitterness.
- Combine Sauce Ingredients: To the skillet, add soy sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), oyster sauce or mushroom oyster sauce (if using), toasted sesame oil, and sugar. Stir well to combine all the flavors, forming a rich savory sauce base.
- Toss Noodles in Sauce: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss thoroughly to evenly coat them with the garlic soy butter sauce, ensuring every strand is flavorful.
- Heat Through: Continue stir-frying the noodles for 1 to 2 minutes, allowing them to heat through fully and become glossy with the sauce.
- Serve and Garnish: Transfer the garlic noodles into serving bowls. Garnish generously with thinly sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, sliced red chili, fresh cilantro leaves, bean sprouts, and julienned carrots as desired. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use plant-based butter to make this recipe vegan-friendly.
- Adjust the chili amount or omit it entirely if you prefer less heat.
- Dark soy sauce and oyster sauce add depth but are optional; regular soy sauce still creates a tasty dish.
- Ensure garlic does not brown to prevent bitterness.
- Feel free to substitute wheat noodles with gluten-free noodles if needed, though this recipe is not inherently gluten-free.
